New Zealand Artist and Educator
1954 - 2001
Greg Whitecliffe was an artist, educator and Co-founder of Whitecliffe College of Arts and Design in Auckland, New Zealand. An accredited degree-granting international private College. He pursued an active professional career which has varied from professional development in higher education management at Harvard University to stone lithographic workshops in Switzerland. He was a prolific artist and in his life created more than 2000 works of art.
We encourage the participation of community to continue to drive projects and opportunities for artists in the form of murals or gallery spaces, events and wider initiatives in support of Greg's memory. An example of this is the Michèle Whitecliffe art writing prize which is funded through the sale of Greg's work in association with the Auckland Art Gallery.
" In the brochure, Mr. Whitecliffe is billed as an artist "reaching back to his roots," but it might be more accurate to say he has ripped the roots from the very soil "
